Uddeholm reduces the fossil CO2 emissions by a further 30%

The best energy is the energy which is not consumed. In light of this, the Uddeholm Mill has launched a vigorous investment of an extra 80 million SEK over the next 18 months (starting September 2022). With this investment, Uddeholm’s energy saving projects have been intensified, such as the installation of state-of-the-art electrified heating systems in existing plants. Measures for greater energy efficiency also contribute significantly to sustainability and support Uddeholm in achieving fossil-free production as early as 2030.

The investments enable Uddeholm to bring forward major energy saving projects, such as:

  • Electrification of former natural gas furnaces
  • Improved process flow for bigger dimensions of Uddeholm Orvar 2M
  • Implementation of digital tools for process optimization through measurement, data collection and analysis
Uddeholm reduces the fossil CO2 emissions by a further 30%

The energy saving projects brought forward with the extra investment millions, will have a major impact: Uddeholm will make a significant energy saving of 27.4 GWh/year, which represents about 6% of our total energy consumption. And not as a one-time event, but year after year. In terms of the goal of reducing fossil CO2 emissions, the investment will reduce Uddeholm’s fossil CO2 emissions by a further 30%.

Since April 1st 2022, Uddeholm has replaced part of its natural gas needs with fossil-free Biogas, reducing fossil CO2 emissions by 30%.
