Extrusion of Plastic

Extrusion of Plastic is a continuous operation in which hot plasticized material is forced through a die opening that produces a plastic profile of the desired shape.

Extruded profiles can be found mainly in the building industry. In the extrusion process, many engineering parts are involved. The die is normally produced in steel, often a prehardened steel grade, however the strength requirements are moderate. Corrosion resistance is needed for the extrusion of PVC profiles, and wear resistance for the production of reinforced profiles. The calibrator units are often made of aluminium in order to achieve quick cooling. The strength requirements on these parts are moderate.
