Uddeholm R&D invests in a state-of-the-art milling machine

Uddeholm R&D invests in a state-of-the-art milling machineUddeholm Research & Development is now investing in a state-of-the-art milling machine for the Machining, Tribology and Applications department. A long-awaited investment that the employees in the department are happy about.

The customer’s success is our success and in the long-term relationship with the customer, we proactively seek a deep understanding of the customer’s needs and future challenges.

“The purpose of the investment is above all to get closer to the reality of our customers in which way we can live up to their expectations of customer support from us. We also want to be able to offer better machining recommendations for our new materials, which are becoming increasingly challenging for toolmakers”, says Emil Wernersson, project manager of Research and Development.

The new milling machine is a 5-axis DMU65 monoBLOCK from DMG MORI. Unique with this particular 5-axis milling machine is that all options are selected according to Uddeholm’s Research and Development focus. The machine makes it possible to understand our materials even better, while at the same time enabling new types of customer support such as advanced 3D milling.

Wireless transmission of data is visualized to show, among other things:

  • Bending moment on the tool in operation with entered limit values
  • Power monitoring on each cutting edge
  • Axial and radial force on the spindle with a built-in warning system in case of incorrect loading

Delivery of the machine is planned to take place in a year.
