    Die Wahl des richtigen Werkzeugstahls für die jeweilige Anwendung wird mit zunehmenden Anforderungen an das Werkzeug immer wichtiger. Was sind das für Anforderungen? Das Werkzeug muss eine ausreichende Verschleißfestigkeit aufweisen. Das Werkzeug muss zuverlässig arbeiten und darf nicht durch vorzeitige Ausbrüche, Rissbildung oder plastische Verformung ausfallen. Eine optimale Werkzeugwirtschaftlichkeit – möglichst niedrige Werkzeugkosten (einschließlich Wartung) pro produziertes Teil – kann nur erzielt werden, wenn der für die betreffende Anwendung geeignete Werkzeugstahl verwendet wird.
