Awar winning problem solvers - Uddeholm steels for powder compacting
Uddeholm steels for powder compacting are great problem solvers and can increase the life span for your tools, witch is crucial in powder compacting processes. They often last twice as long or even longer, than tools made of conventional tool steels or high speed steels. By using various combinations you can achieve superior results in your process.
Our four recommended tools steels for powder compacting offer you a complete programme of steels that solves the common tooling problems as: galling, adhesive wear, abrasive wear, chipping and cracking. Furthermore, these steels are all easy to heat treat and maintain good dimensional stability. This in turn will improve your economy, shorten your lead times and make it easier for you to keep your promises.
One of them, Uddeholm Vancron 40, our award winning steel (2007 EPMA Award of Merit), has an integrated “surface coating” that vastly reduces friction. This means that you do not need to coat any Uddeholm Vancron 40 tool to avoid galling or adhesive wear problems.
By introducing a high amount of nitrogen to the loose powder before Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), the PM steel Uddeholm Vancron 40, with its integrated “surface coating”, offer the best solution for you. This means that you can reduce the amount of lubrication in your powder to be pressed and attain higher density and better properties of your finished product.
The Uddeholm concept of steels for powder compacting also includes:
- Uddeholm Vanadis 4 Extra – with excellent chipping resistance and good wear resistance you will experience longer tool life, reducing the number of stoppages and improving your total production economy.
- Uddeholm Caldie – offering extremely high toughness. It is especially a good choise when cracking occurs in your tooling.
- Uddeholm Weartec SF – replaces cemented carbide in certain applications.
This means that you can cut your costs, while avoiding the difficulties involved in machining cemented carbide and its limited use in application due to its low toughness.
