Scrap extra valid from January 1st, 2005

Decreased scrap surcharge for tool steels from January 1st 2005

In the last two years, the purchase price of alloying elements and steel scrap has been steadily increasing.

For steel scrap there has been a dramatic development during the last months in respect of both price and availability. In August we had to pay 260 €/ton for new steel scrap of Grade 2. Following steadily increasing scrap prices of an average 110 €/ton in 2002, 130 €/ton last year and over 170 €/ton during the first six months of 2004, this is a new, dramatic development. In addition also availability has occasionally become critical recently. Huge quantities of scrap have been shipped in August from Europe to Far East as well as to the United States, pushing the scrap price to an all time high.

The scrap prices during December have decreased, we will therefore decrease the present Scrap surcharge to 0.11 €/kg from January 1st 2005 till further notice.
